Keys to Victory | Cowboys vs. Commanders Week 12

During the offseason, I had some doubts about this game. Usually the Cowboys win both of these games in the season. But now the roles may be flipped.

I worried about a good rookie season from Daniels, and playing them so late in the year would allow them to get comfortable. But those predictions are meaningless when the Cowboys can’t beat anyone. This is also a team that may want some revenge, as it features a ton of former Cowboy’s players and coaches.

I think the biggest advantage for the Cowboys this weekend. They are playing on the road, and not at AT&T Stadium.

Game x-factors, not necessarily the best players, but guys that could have a big impact.
  • McCarthy promised we’d see Lance unlike last week, he can come in and be a weapon in the run game.
  • Bland is making his season debut, the pick-6 king will have the chance to make a big play Sunday, much needed for Dallas.
  • Kneeland is also making his return, the Cowboys need some edge presence, especially against a poor offensive line.
  • Ekeler is a great runner and a problem in the passing game. He has the ability to take over the game, especially against a poor run defense and a poor tackling team.
  • The former Cowboy will be looking at a revenge game here, Armstrong could have himself a day.
  • The rookie QB will have a chance to play against a franchise rival and make a name for himself for many years, as down the line the Cowboys vs Commanders matchup will continue.
1 – Incorporate Trey Lance.

Coach McCarthy said this week he plans to install Lance into the offense more this week.

After not using him at all last week, it just doesn’t make sense to not incorporate his running ability into this lackluster offense. We can’t run the ball normally, so a mobile QB may help create danger in the offense.

Also not to mention, spending a 4th round pick last year on Lance, at some point you would want to make that trade seem more useful.

2 – Attack The O-Line.

The Commanders have had some offensive line issues, making Jayden Daniels to be a more mobile passer.

Marshawn Kneeland is making his return and of course we have Micah Parsons on the edge. The goal is to create pressure and make the rookie quarterback get on the move and take some riskier throws.

But also be vigilant of Jayden Daniels using his legs, because he is not afraid to win by running the ball.

3 – Keep It Close Into 4th.

When the Commanders lose, its usually because they struggle in the 4th quarter to close games.

This is obvious of course, you need to keep all games close. But these guys will blow a game if you give them an opportunity.

4 – Young Guys Need To Make A Play.

Some veterans will be out Sunday, including Zack Martin and Trevon Diggs. Also with Ceedee Lamb questionable. This raises the question of, who will play?

We will see the opportunity for some younger players to make a name for themselves. But also see the season debut of DaRon Bland, and maybe the return of Brandin Cooks.
