End On A Win | Falcons Recap

The Cowboys get their first preseason win under Brian Schottenheimer. A 31-13 win allows Dallas to taste a bit of victory before their regular season gets underway in 10 days.

The Cowboys will start announcing their roster cuts within the next 36 hours with the Tuesday deadline approaching at 3pm. Schottenheimer said expect a few surprises, so we will anticipate what’s to come.

Joe Milton had a better looking performance on Friday than he saw the past two games. He seemed to play more like himself, used his legs more. Able to use his eyes to look off defenders.

He had a problem locking onto targets last week, he went through the progressions this week. A passing and rushing TD on the day, but more importantly the completion % was higher and the team looked better on third down.

Ryan Flournoy and Jalen Brooks were able to make plays all over the field. Traeshon Holden got into the game for some good looks. We will have to see if Holden did enough to grab that final roster spot at WR. Or if the Cowboys even want to roll with six wide receivers.

Johnathan Mingo will likely start the season on IR and have to miss at least four games to start the year. Unless the Cowboys decide to use his spot for an extra offensive linemen early, we will see if Holden or Flournoy makes the team.

We also saw the debut of Jaydon Blue. He showed up and looked good hitting the holes, scored his first touchdown. And of course it came with an injury scare, aggravating that same ankle that bothered him in camp.

Deuce Vaughn and Phil Mafah also looked good on Friday. Williams hasn’t played and Sanders was dressed but a healthy scratch. Its hard to tell how they will handle this RB room, especially when all of them haven’t played much.

Perrion Winfrey has come in and been disruptive as a defensive tackle. Showing up in practice as well. They will need to find a spot for him on this roster, as they will likely give Mazi Smith one more chance this season. James Houston also has made a name for himself and gotten pressures off the edge.

The Cowboys will need to figure out their Micah Parsons situation. I think there could be a surprise cut with Sam Williams, as he doesn’t seem to fit in much with the team and has had a few problems with coaches. Has James Houston done enough to push him off?
