Seatbelt Sign is On | Panther Recap

“They weren’t buckled up” Rico Dowdle told the media in his post game availability.

Plenty of writers and podcasters made jokes of Rico’s buckle up comments going into this game. Including Cowboys players who brushed off the comments with humor.

No one actually thought Rico Dowdle could turn a once in a lifetime game into back to back weeks…right?

Rico Dowdle had a career-high 30 carries for 183 yards against the Cowboys in Week 6, while adding four receptions for a team-high 56 yards and a touchdown across five targets.

He did exactly what he said he was going to. No one thought the Dallas defense would actually be ran through like that. But this is the warning signs we have been ignoring. Breece Hall’s 113-yard performance wasn’t a fluke and neither was this.

Going into the week we talked about how the Panthers struggled to figure out their deep game and this is the week to figure it out…they did.

Young completed as many deep passes against the Cowboys and had more passing yards on deep passes (89) than he did over his first five games combined (3 deep completions for 79 yards). He also threw his first deep touchdown passes of the season to Rico Dowdle and Tetairoa McMillan (entered Week 6 with zero deep touchdowns and 2 interceptions).

It is a shame that a great offense, has to be paired with such an atrocious defense. I mean with injuries and some faults, the offense is no means perfect. But compared to the other side of the ball…

The Cowboys have scored more than 175 points six weeks into the season, with only two wins to show for it. Only five other teams have had a similar experience, and only one (1961 Houston Oilers) made it to the post-season.

George Pickens caught 9 of 11 targets for 168 yards and a touchdown, with most of his production coming against Panthers cornerback Mike Jackson.

Pickens had another great game and has come up big on 3rd downs consistently.

Dak Prescott recorded his longest average time to throw this season at 3.01 seconds, with 67.6% of his attempts taking over 2.5 seconds (17/23 for 160 yards). Even with a banged up offensive line, Dak has plenty of time to throw.

Though he has performed at his best on quick throws and moving the ball through short yardage and working the way up the field slowly. Which should help his defense get a bit of a break.

The Cowboys scored on 5 of 8 drives. Its unfair to kill them on the final drive where they ended up getting tackled for a loss twice and punting. Also having to nitpick things like in the first quarter, where they got the ball into the redzone with a 31-yard reception by George Pickens.

Dallas had the ball at the 8-yard line, and ran it for three then threw two incompletions and had to settle for a field goal. Settling for 3 points is no longer safe with this defensive unit.

The Cowboys fall to 2-3-1, if they even want to think about the post-season, they will need to call someone to save this defense.
