As the Cowboys leave their bye week, they will head to Las Vegas to play one more Monday Night game. The Cowboys defense has allowed the 2nd most yards per game in the NFL as well as 2nd most points per game.
Matt Eberflus and the defense needed to make some changes, it would be a waste to send out the same concepts that you did in the first half of the season. Whether or not the scheme changed any, we will find out Monday. But we do know about four new defenders coming to help Dallas.
DeMarvion Overshown, Linebacker
Activated from PUP list, 3rd season
One of the most anticipated returns for Cowboys fans. Overshown is in year three, his past two seasons ended with devastating knee injuries, last year he played a total of 13 games, had five sacks and a pick-6. In his final six games, he generated 15 pressures.
Overshown attacked his rehab with a lot of resilience and determination, now he will be back earlier than originally anticipated.
In Las Vegas, Agent Zero will make his debut. When DMO takes the field he will be the first person in Dallas Cowboys history to wear the #0.
The Cowboys have had struggles at linebacker, which has made them susceptible to allowing big run days from Breece Hall, Rico Dowdle, RJ Harvey…and the list goes on. Overshown will be tasked with a big role in stopping Ashton Jeanty.
Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle
Acquired from New York Jets for 2027 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick and Mazi Smith
As the Cowboys have been searching far and wide to stop the run. They had to pay a premium but nonetheless got their guy. The all-pro has 13 run stuffs this season which leads all NFL players, stopping the run in its tracks 10.2% of the time.
Williams has recently been improving his run game dominance, when he first joined New York he was better known for his pass rush abilities. Now he brings both to Dallas and can be considered a gamewrecker on the inside.
Often double teamed, though that doesn’t seem to slow Williams down. Quinnen has beaten 57 double teams to generate pressure since 2022, the most of any player in that span.
The main benefit of Williams will be the ability to take some focus off our edge rushers, hopefully we can see Donovan Ezeiruaku continue to develop and for Dante Fowler and James Houston to show a lot more.
Logan Wilson, Linebacker
Acquired from Cincinnati for 2026 7th round pick
The Cowboys have been searching for a quicker middle linebacker to play their zone coverage looks. And really that search has gone on for the past few seasons. Wilson will be tasked with learning the playbook quickly, and likely take over play calling duties when that time comes.
Wilson has played six seasons in Cincinnati, this season he took a bit of a back seat as the Bengals look to rebuild their bottom of the league defense. As Cincy drafted two linebackers this year, it seemed they were ready to move on from Wilson. Which leads him to Dallas.
Interestingly, Wilson does a great job forcing turnovers in coverage. Only Logan Wilson, Marlon Humphrey (all-pro), and Harrison Smith (all-pro) have had at least 10 interceptions and forced 5 fumbles since 2020.
Logan Wilson is not a season saving addition by no means, but he will have an opportunity to make a great impact on Dallas.
Shavon Revel Jr., Cornerback
3rd round, 76th overall of the 2025 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Activated from NFI list.
A highly touted rookie in the 2025 NFL Draft. Many industry professionals of draft coverage would have confidently told you that Revel was the best cornerback in this past years draft.
A torn acl early in his 2024 season would tank his draft stock. He fell to the 3rd round and the Cowboys took a risk on him, which Dallas has been known to do on Day 2 of the draft.
Though it was never an official statement by the Cowboys, there may have been some setbacks in the recovery which took 13 months. But maybe it was unfair to be hopeful that he would be ready for training camp as many anticipated.
This may be the only person on this list that isn’t actually going to be starting Monday, as he is a rookie and would the team want to just throw him in the game when it is more typical to work him back slowly.
But the argument here is, the bar is low for corner play in Dallas…they need help now. If Revel is ready to go, then get in there…it can’t get worse.
