Final Home Stand | Chargers Recap

For the first time under Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys face three losses in a row. The Chargers pulled away late and beat Dallas 34-17 in AT&T Stadium.

The Cowboys were officially eliminated from the playoffs by the time kickoff rolled around. Dallas came out and played as if they were still in it…at least for the first half. Though some problems Dallas has seen all year continued to show their ugly head.

This is the 6th time the Cowboys have allowed 34+ points, and 10th time they’ve allowed 27+ points.

Both teams started out moving the ball well, no punts for the 1st half. The Cowboys on defense saw a few blown coverages and struggled in the secondary again. Herbert was able to pass the ball around to multiple receivers, having four receivers with 40+ yards.

Trevon Diggs made his return in a Cowboys uniform, with a lot of behind-the-scenes drama going on. Regardless, he was worked into the game and had a few bad beats in coverage. Quentin Johnston needed this game against Dallas for his confidence as the Chargers gear up for playoff football.

Johnston had his first 100-yard game of the season with 4 catches for 104 yards and a score.

Dallas edge rushers have not been able to generate pressure and convert sacks; they had a few pressures but failed to contain Herbert, including a 34-yard scramble.

Coming into today’s game, Herbert was the most sacked QB in the NFL. Though today he didn’t go to the ground once.

The offense did not help the defense at all, getting shut out in the 2nd half, with plenty of failed 4th downs.

With the Dallas D allowing three straight touchdowns to open the game, we can only imagine what the writing on the wall is for Matt Eberflus and this defensive staff.
