The Cowboys won the toss and elected to put the struggling defense on the field and make a statement. They did, Dallas forces a 3-and-out and punt the ball away. The first time the Bears haven’t scored on a opening drive this season.
The Cowboys would end up turning the ball over on their second play, a 22-yard run by Williams ended with the ball being ripped from his hands by Tyrique Stevenson. The Bears would score on the ensuing drive and never look back.
By halftime the Bears led 24-14, Caleb Williams had diced up the Cowboys defense. 239 yards and 3 touchdowns, a career high. Creative plays by Ben Johnson, the flea flicker TD to Luther Burden for his first score.
There was a time where the Bears completed three straight plays without a Cowboys defender within five yards of the receiver.
There was little to no pressure on Williams, this was the first game of his career without being sacked. Tackling was poor all over. And no one in the secondary knew where they were supposed to be.
A moment that stands out is when Sam Williams makes a tackle 20-yards downfield as the linebackers & safeties failed to wrap up.
Tom Brady described the Cowboys defense on the call the best.
The point that made the defense look tired and thrashed. During the 3rd quarter the Bears completed a 19 play 76-yard touchdown drive that ate up 9:54 of the clock.
For the offense, they couldn’t keep up. Struggling to find deep plays downfield. They checked down a lot. If there was a 3rd and 8…they were throwing a 6-yard pass to Jake Ferguson.

Prescott played well, but this game involved him having to chase the entire time. Dak Prescott was effective on play action dropbacks, completing 13 of 14 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. On non-play action passes, Prescott completed 18 of 26 passes for 102 yards and 2 interceptions, averaging just 3.9 yards per attempt.
Dak pushed the ball downfield (10+ air yards), completing 6 of 8 attempts for 114 yards. Though 86 of those yards came late when they trailed 17+ points. I feel like they waited too late in the game start the deeper looks.
Ceedee Lamb rolled his ankle early in the game and was out for the remainder of the game. Ferguson became the main target with 13 receptions and 82 yards.
The Cowboys have a good rushing attack but when you fall behind so quickly, you have to pass it a bunch. Williams despite a fumble still runs hard and can break through tackles.
Late penalties from Tyler Guyton and Terrance Steele stalled late drives for a chance at a comeback. The offensive line has not been perfect, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Nate Thomas start at right tackle soon.
