A Win In The Sun | Commanders Recap

The Cowboys get right back into the groove winning 44-22 against the Commanders at AT&T Stadium. Though the sun was a huge topic this week and talked about plenty on the broadcast, I don’t believe it was any issue.

The offense continues their scoring prowl, and this week the defense steps up and even finds some points on their own.

Since they were present, lets talk about the defense.

Sure, the Commanders were missing their top receiving targets but its not like Dallas has been stopping anyone. The Cowboys were out Trevon Diggs and started Trikweze Bridges on the outside spot, he has played more special teams than actual cornerback this season.

The Cowboys secondary saw Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota, who came in as an injury replacement, during the game they were able to maintain both of their rushing ability.

DaRon Bland made plenty as the primary nickel cornerback. Crashing down to get a 3rd down stop, and making the play on the read option attempt for the Commanders 2-point conversion. Though it was this moment that sent flashbacks to 2023, a high scoring defense.

While the defensive line wasn’t winning every rep, they were still able to come up with 4 sacks. One being a sack-fumble forced by James Houston. Though it would be Jadeveon Clowney with the stand out game, he had 5 tackles, a sack, 2 passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 26 snaps.

Clowney on getting back into rhythm, “coming off that couch is a little bit different. I’m feeling much better now than I did two weeks ago. Just practicing I feel much better. I think I got my feet up under me and I’m ready to rock…”

On the offensive side.

Ceedee Lamb merged right back into the offense as you might have imagined. In his first game back from an ankle injury suffered in Week 3, Lamb caught 5 of 8 targets for a team-high 100 yards and a touchdown. He played on 77.4% of the Cowboys offensive snaps (48 of 62).

Lamb played primarily back in the slot receiver position.

The rushing attack was led by Javonte Williams with another 100+ yard day. Again showing off the ability to break tackles and keep falling forward. A few times a game, he will turn a negative 2-yard run into a positive 5.

Of course all without forgetting to mention, Dak Prescott continues to play at an MVP level week in and week out. Prescott was particularly effective on play-action, completing 9 of 11 such throws for 130 yards and two touchdowns, including a 74-yard touchdown to CeeDee Lamb.

Dak Prescott completed 21 of 30 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the Cowboys’ win on Sunday.

This offense has been humming and its been led by the veteran QB. He makes his adjustments at the line and keeps everything organized.

Finally, have to mention the most consistent piece of the puzzle. Brandon Aubrey cannot miss.

Aubrey has gone a perfect 15/15 on FGs this season and became the first kicker in NFL history to make 5 field goals of 60 yards or more and has not played 3 full seasons yet.

Brian Schottenheimer on kicker Brandon Aubrey: “What amazes me is the ease of just the way the operation goes.” Butter is a machine out there, and never is shy of a big kick.
