How Many Problems Are There? | Cardinals Recap

The Cowboys fall to 3-5-1 with a loss at home on Monday Night Football to the Arizona Cardinals, 27-17. The Cowboys tried to ignite a late game comeback but their only offensive touchdown came late in the 4th quarter.

The offense failed to score any points in the first half of the game, which is the first time since 2021 that they were unable to come up with at least 3 points. On the opening drive, Prescott was sacked at the Arizona 4 on a 4th down to turn it over.

Two possessions later, the Cowboys in Aubrey range turn it over again with a pass to Jake Ferguson, who fumbled the ball after a 10-yard pickup on 3rd down.

The offense failed to get anything going all day, and it was mainly because of the offensive line not being able to hold up. Dak Prescott was pressured 19 times on 39 dropbacks (48% pressure rate allowed), hit nine times and sacked five times.

On defense, it is the same old story. Can’t tackle, can’t cover. The Cardinals had so much success throwing the short passes to the flats as the coverage was soft and afraid of the deep ball. But the underneath passes were able to get big yards because of poor tackling angles.

Constantly there were linebackers and defensive backs missing tackles, and getting completely juked out of their shoes.

The Cardinal offense did not shy away from the Cowboys star CB, DaRon Bland. He was heavily targeted all night, as the Cardinals successfully got the ball to Marvin Harrison and Trey McBride.

Arizona was the only team in the NFL without a drive of 74 or more yards this year. They had two Monday night. One being the opening of the second half, which was a 3-play TD drive. Cardinals led 24-7.

The Cowboys were behind and the offense started forcing things, but couldn’t get into a rhythm as they have had at home. A Javonte Williams fumble felt like it stunted any possible comeback in the 4th quarter. On the final drive, Dak took two sacks and threw a 4th-and-28 prayer that was intercepted.

This was the only highlight of the night.

At 3pm today, the NFL trade deadline will pass. Will the Cowboys make a deal?

Jerry Jones said on a preshow with Stephen A. Smith that the Cowboys have ‘made a deal’ and without going into details, led the fans and listeners onto believe that the Cowboys have made a trade to submit ahead of the deadline.

Will a loss change that? Will it be for a player you ever heard of?

Well we might have seen that the trade talks were for just for show on TV. As this was Jerry speaking after the loss.

Jerry did a lot of talking with Stephen A. Smith on his show, Smith as someone who made his career mocking and embarrassing the Cowboys and their fans on national television. The two even met in Jerry’s suite during the game.

Between this quote:

And the article in the Wall Street Journal, about the billions the Jones family makes in oil & gas compared to the focus of trying to win football games.

It all makes you wonder how much ‘try’ there is left.

Once again, a poor outcome turned into wonderfully written literature
