Stacking Wins | Chiefs Recap

“The heartbeat of this football team is different.” Words spoken by head coach Brian Schottenheimer as the Cowboys celebrate their win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving, 31-28.

The Chiefs opened this one up with an early interception turned touchdown drive. From there both teams would exchange scoring drives, until the Cowboys took a 20-14 lead going into the 4th quarter.

Mahomes had his magical moments of evading sacks and making big plays downfield. Chiefs took a late lead that was answered by Dallas with a score and 2-point try.

Ultimately the Dallas D would make a stand that allowed the Cowboys to take a two score lead. Ceedee Lamb would make a huge play downfield in this one. As the Cowboys were backed up after a KC punt, the 51-yard reception would eventually allow Dallas to extend their lead.

Lamb finished the game with 7 receptions for 114 yards and a score. Lamb caught four of his five targets against Trent McDuffie for 44 yards and a touchdown, while also gaining 51 yards on a fourth quarter shot against Chamarri Conner. Lamb additionally drew three pass interference penalties for 50 yards in matchups with McDuffie.

Credit Kavontae Turpin for being involved in this game and making plays all over the field, and potentially the game saving play. Diving on a George Pickens fumble that allowed Dallas to secure their points.

Mahomes looked great and made plays all over. Which made it sweeter for the defense to get to him. As a team the Cowboys hit Mahomes 9 times, recording 3 as sacks. He was pressured on 35% of his throws, the 2nd most this season.

The late game heroics weren’t enough for the Chiefs and the Cowboys will have a moment to celebrate their win and eat some turkey.

As the gauntlet for the Cowboys continues, in less than a week they will take the field in Detroit and play a 7-win Lions team coming off a Thanksgiving loss against Green Bay.

Another victory for Dallas will allow them to jump Detroit in the standings. But they will still need to jump either Seattle, San Francisco or Green Bay. All of which have 8 wins as of Saturday.

There is an opportunity to still win the division, which opens up more with Philly’s Friday loss to the Bears. The Eagles have 2 games remaining against current playoff teams, both on road — at Bills, at Chargers. Cowboys have 1 game and it’s at home — Chargers Dec. 21.

Meaning a race to 11 wins with 5 games left is underway. Dallas winning out with Philly dropping both of those games to Buffalo and LA would have both teams with 11 wins but that GB tie comes into play and gives the division championship to Dallas.
