Brett's Cowboys Corner

As every draft rumor flies around, I wanted to combine all of that to figure out who the Cowboys have on their big board. Like last year, I am extending the ranking to the Cowboys first round picks. This year, I will extend it to fit both picks.

The Cowboys are projected to have about 12 1st-round grades per Stephen Jones in the pre-draft presser. Dallas will not rank everyone on their board, they will only have about 150 players in total.

As said by VP of Player Personnel Will McClay, “Fans and media get player fits wrong all the time.” So if a guy doesn’t fit the scheme or make sense for the team…they are not on the board.

It reads as simple: you start with the highest player – if he’s available, you pick him, if not, go down to the next guy. Repeat until you have the pick.

There have been plenty of talks for the Cowboys to move around with trading. It will be a game-time decision by the Joneses.

1. This would shock Cowboys fans, but the player would be too good to pass up. ↩︎
2. The recent bump of the Cowboys going WR is real, and it’s further supported by the George Pickens contract situation. If their top defenders are gone, don’t be surprised. ↩︎
3. At this point, the Cowboys would be exploring trade-back scenarios. Though looking at options of bringing in competition for Tyler Guyton or Terrence Steele should not be ignored. ↩︎
4. This is a popular name I have seen linked to the Cowboys. They don’t believe they have addressed the cornerback position enough. ↩︎
5. Another name that has been heavily linked to the Cowboys may be closer to the 20th pick. ↩︎
6. Cowboys hired the former linebackers coach from the Georgia Bulldogs. ↩︎
