What a disappointing start to the season for the Cowboys. After our initial reaction, we believed that the defense was bad. But I wanted to wait to turn on the film. And…that was confirmed.
So what happened?
Let’s begin with the first set. These plays have been floating around social media. The Giants essentially ran the same play to Devin Singleterry four times. That they did. Now, not every time it was bad for Dallas but someone had to cover it
We acquired more context, and there was confusion among the defense, per Coach Schottenheimer. The eyes were misguided, and poor reaction times led to Singleterry finishing the last 30 yards of the drive.
The Cowboys lost this one at the very beginning. Maybe that’s dramatic. But with months to prepare, how could they have not drawn up a better opening series?

This 3-and-out may needed to feature the first 4th down attempt of the year. I understand the reasoning to punt it here. Regardless, this offense doesn’t look like they’ve practiced together much.
The final bit of offense. This has been bugging me from last season. We get down in these goal-line situations and refuse to run the ball. We have Javonte Williams, a powerful runner. But we want to be all creative and throw it.
It worked out on the first goal-line period, but it still doesn’t make logical sense to me…why throw the ball 20 yards when you need 1 yard?
Isaiah Likely was the go-to target in the Giants’ passing attack on Sunday night, leading the team in receptions (8), yards (78) and touchdowns (2) — each of those figures ranks in the top-5 in his career.
Per Brian Schottenheimer, the busted coverage in the end zone was from Dee Winters not staying with the Likely. This play should have never happened because Dallas shouldn’t have thrown a terrible interception to end the half.
